Ubergirl blog 2010 / 2011 (upcoming movies and shows)

A bit late, but here's the ubergirl blog for 2010. If you find any upcoming stuff that might feature supergirl content feel free to post it here.

Season of the Witch - with Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman. About a bunch of knights who are to escort a witch and expel her powers from her (or something like that).

The theatrical trailer shows a backhand punch and her grabbing Cage by the throat (it looks like she's flying) and suggests that she is somewhat of a physical threat to the knights. I also like the sense of threat and evil that surrounds her.

The movie was originally planned to be released in March, but Lionsgate shifted back its release date to an unknown date, probably in 2010.

Misc films - There are some upcoming vampire movies featuring female vamps as main characters or villains.

Vamps - A horror comedy about two young female vampires in New York. Sigourney Weaver is said to play the role of the Vampire Queen who "recruited" the girls. Will be shooting in April, release date is unknown.

Wir sind die Nacht (We are the night) - A German movie about a bunch of female vampires. Don't know much about it, but it seems to be a romantic horror movie. Release date is 10/28/2010.

Here's the Trailer.

30 Days of Night - Dark Days - The sequel to 30 Days of Night. Will be released to DVD. Mia Kirshner plays Lilith, the Vampire Queen. Not sure how much she will be featured in the movie, though, but I guess there will be some kind of finale involving her.

Here are couple of news from Beyond Hollywood. Some nice girls in this movie emoticon

Twilight - Eclipse - Well, obviously. Veronica, that red-haired vamp, is the main villain in this part and will probably be involved in a fight or two. The trailer shows her doing a super jump, but nothing else. (I have to say, this has to be the most boring trailer I have seen in a long time. Wasn't there supposed to be *some* kind of action in this movie? emoticon) Release date is June.

TV shows

Fly with me - The Chinese superheroine comedy we already discussed. Starts on April 19th.

Aahat and Ssshhhh ... Phir Koi Hai - Two Indian TV horror shows that are currently airing. Aahat has featured a few bits of female strength scenes, mostly by possessed women. Phir Koi Hai had some villainesses in the past seasons that did show bits of superstrength so there's a fair chance the new season will have some as well.

Both shows are a bit lame and low-budget, though.

The other usual suspects like Supernatural, Smallville, etc. I will cover here only if there are promising upcoming episodes.

Cheers,
cnnjack

Re: Ubergirl blog 2010 (upcoming movies and shows)

Two upcoming Korean TV shows, that might be worth looking into:

My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed-Fox and The Gumiho's Revenge.

Nine-tailed foxes (Gumihos) are supernatural creatures in Korean mythology, somewhat similar to Western vampires (well, not really, actually), who usually appear in the form of cute Asian women with fangs (and nine tails). Also, Korea has delivered a few, but good, ubergirl bits in the past year or two with stuff from shows like Hon, Hometown Legends or movies like Thirst and Taoist Wizard. So, despite the crappy title of the former, both shows might be worth at least a look.

The first series is supposed to air around August, the release date for the second is still unknown. I'll keep you posted about any updates.

Here you can see a ]Gumiho in action (from Hometown Legends 2008). There's no superstrength shown, though. The action starts @ about 7:30.

V - I was wondering if the renewal of this show has any potential. The aliens are, I believe, somewhat stronger and tougher than humans but probably not much. I'm not following the show too closely, though, and so far there was nothing that indicates much in terms of ubergirl potential.

While it won't be happening in 2010 I thought I would post it in this thread instead of starting a new one. There is news that a film adaptation of the Marvel comic "The Runaways" will soon be made. One of the female characters has superstrength. Here's hoping we'll see a bit of that in the film. emoticon Here's a brief newslink: [sign in to see URL]

This might be good. An upcoming Japanese drama with a robot heroine:

Also, the Lost Girl starts airing this Sunday. It seems to be a bit like a darker and more adult version of Buffy.

Anyone seen the Lost Girl pilot, is it worth while?

I finished True Blood S3 yesterday and have mixed feelings about it so a new series is welcome.

Although I do have hope for S4 of true blood because the ending suggested summer might put up a fight for Huyd.

So personally I'm hoping she gets her self turned to please him and we get a chick fight between her and Jessica. Somehow a super powered big breasted 1,5 meter girl sounds extremely sexy to me emoticon

Lost Girl is OK but nothing to interest this board so far. Basically the Lost Girl is a succubus who, although there is a hint of potential strength, doesn't exhibit any in this episode.
I'd be surprised if a strength scene appears, fingers crossed though. I'll keep watching in hope.

I agree about Lost Girl. Seems a bit like Buffy - able to fight the bad guys but not really likely to lift them single handedly, so to speak.

Another show to check out might be The Vampire Diaries as an evil female vampire seems to be the main villainess of the season. In the opening episode she turned another girl into a vampire who seems to cause a bit of havoc in tonight's episode.

Also, I read the book to the upcoming German vampire movie Wir sind die Nacht, which is based on the movie's script (not the other way round). The vampire girls are definitely superstrong - they break handcuffs, open door locks with bare hands, move at superspeed, take out big russian goons easily, etc. I'm just not sure how much of the action in the book will be in the movie. The trailer doesn't really reveal too much. But I'll probably check it out in the cinema when it's released (10/28) and keep you posted ...

Too bad about Lost Girl, maybe it just needs to get started.

On the bright sight, Smallville S10 starts this week and it's confirmed Kara will return in the 3rd episode.

edit (it's the 3rd episode not the 4th).

Also.. I have very big feeling this will also be her last episode, cause judging from the ep name it probably will follow the cartoons (where Super-girl goes to the future and stays there). This because I find it hard to believe they will allow a public supergirl flying around while Clark is still grounded (and so missing the point of the whole series.)

I hope that Kara will do some strength feat in the upcoming episode. A throatlift would be great!!
